Musical Manipulation of the Mind

In Episode 2, director Olly Blackburn discusses creative process and collaboration with composers Andy Milburn.

Born in 1990’s NYC, tomandandy has long been a mysterious and disruptive force in music for media. tomandandy has created original music for feature films by Academy Award-winning filmmakers including Oliver Stone and Roger Avary, produced music with recording artists, among them Lou Reed and David Byrne, and collaborated with such artists as author William Burroughs, performance artist Laurie Anderson and visual artist Jenny Holzer. Their credits include scores for “The Mothman Prophecies”, “The Stranger”,  “Resident Evil: Retribution”, and “47 Meters Down”. In addition to scoring work, tomandandy has developed a number of music technologies. They contributed to the seminal computer music language CMIX at Princeton and currently hold patents derived from their development of AI music systems as well as systems for managing networked collaboration.

Olly Blackburn is an award­-winning film director and screenwriter. He trained as an historian and after spending time as a journalist and copywriter found himself working in feature films, television and commercials. His films have played at major festivals including Telluride, Sundance, Edinburgh, Austin and London. In TV drama Olly’s work ranges from tough contemporary thrillers like Amazon’s The Widow and StartUp, to the human drama of Jack Thorne’s Glue and period pieces like Victoria and Andrew Davies’ adapatation of Jane Austen’s Sanditon.
